Shared Ownership Week 2015: 5th-11th October

Tuesday 22 September 2015

October 2015 sees the launch of this year's Shared Ownership Week, a great way for homebuyers to find out more about the Shared Ownership scheme and to browse the thousands of affordable homes available across the country.

Shared Ownership is a government backed, part buy-part rent scheme aimed at helping people get onto the property ladder, who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford it.

Housing associations, including Riverside Home Ownership, develop brand new homes to buy especially for first time buyers and other eligible people who want to become home owners.

  • You buy a share of one of these properties, from as little as 25% of the full value, usually with a mortgage
  • The housing association still owns the remainder, so you pay a reduced monthly rent and a service charge to them on their share
  • You can buy more shares of your home as and when you can afford to
  • In most cases, you can eventually own your home 100%
  • The initial monthly cost is usually around 20% less than what it would be if you owned the property outright, or comparable to what it would cost to rent the same property

Take a look at the properties that Riverside Home Ownership has available.

You can also find details of your local Help to Buy Agent whose website lists properties available from all housing associations with Shared Ownership developments in your region.
